The purpose of the Socratic Circle is to encourage critical thinking through scholarship. With an aim to foster the habit of discernment, the students and leader will examine various sources and viewpoints on the topics being discussed. The program will contemplate, among other topics, the relationship between faith and reason, freedom and human passions, the distinction between science and technology, the nature of work, leisure, and culture, as well as the role of ethics and conscience in human acts.
The atmosphere encourages enriching discussion and a dynamic exchange of ideas among the students. The intellectual quality of Socratic Circle also helps prepare students for important steps of their future, including essay writing, college application preparation and interview skills.
We invite students who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation to register (grades 8-12).
Whatever is true,
whatever is honorable,
whatever is just,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is gracious,
if there is any excellence and
if there is anything worthy of praise,
dwell on these things.
